Rita Romilly

Rita Romilly (1900 – 1984) was a student of Gurdjieff from 1922 until his death in 1949. Gurdjieff called her “Rita Rita” due to her dual nature. She was Gurdjieff’s official reader of his All and Everything books before they were published. She also studied Gurdjieff’s teachings with A.R. Orage. Romilly was an actress in New York and appeared in theatrical productions of George Michael Cohan’s plays and films and Eva Le Gallienne’s Repertory Civic Theatre. She taught acting at The Theatre Wing.

Rita Romilly was one of the founders and instructors of The New York Gurdjieff Foundation, where she taught many students.
